From Zolas

“This is how I glue shoes now. And I am getting really good at it. Practice makes perfect!

First of all, the hoof capsule needs to be clean and DRY. I use Glushu glue on’s because they have an aluminium core that you can fit the shoes perfectly to each individual horse. The perfect fit means the glued shoe stays on longer.

I always make sure that the shoe still stays on when I put down the hoof on the floor. If it glides around, it’s not a good enough fit. It is a bit tricky to forge such small shoes, as the rubber of the Glushu causes my sledgehammer bounce around. But I’ve found the way to do it fast and good enough.

I use Vettecs Adhere. Just because I use it for other purposes as well, so I don’t see the point in changing a working system.

This horse usually keeps the shoes on for about 9 weeks, then the shoes fall off but that’s how good my glue holds at the moment. I find this method of gluing, better, because then no glue slips in under the sole of the horse that might cause discomfort. The adhere gets quite hard, but it’s flexible enough to follow the hooves movements without letting go of the wall.

I love using these shoes as an alternative to traditional nail ons.”
